Keeping Motivated
You need Inspiration!
Maybe you felt it yesterday, perhaps you’ll feel it tomorrow or maybe you are feeling it right now as you read this article – lack of motivation. Just like the car that won’t start if the battery is flat, we all get those days. Nothing wrong with that, it’s all part of the constant renewal cycle, the brain’s down time while it recharges its batteries. The problem is when the battery won’t recharge and you have to declare it definitively dead. Where do you get the new one? With a car it’s simple but for humans it’s called finding new inspiration. But it’s not that simple I hear you cry, where does inspiration come from in the first place? How and where do I find it? How long will it last?
In this new series of articles, I’m going to take you through the key ingredients you’ll need to find inspiration, keep yourself inspired and finally inspire others (an essential quality whether you’re running a family, a business, a charity, networking group, sports club etc).
Once you’ve read an article, how do you get started and put it into practice? Well it’s no good waiting for inspiration or the right moment. As Picasso said:
“Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.”
You have to actively pursue what you are seeking. If you are going to wait for inspiration to come walking in the door then find a good book because you’re going to spend a long time waiting….So my suggestion is to read the tips and act on the them. The quickest way to get started is to find yourself an inspirational person or people. As a motivational coach, my job often consists in fast-tracking my clients towards results driven inspiration and helping them act, deliver and sustain. You could also join a networking group. In 2011, I created New Women Networking, a multinational/cultural motivational ladies group in and around Monaco. We hold monthly get-togethers and workshops. Each of our networking evenings now hosts a female motivational speaker who is a member of our group. This serves as a motivational support platform where women can inspire and be inspired by others. One evening could change your whole outlook, maybe your life. You can find us on our Facebook page: New Women Networking. We’ll motivate you and you in turn will motivate us. So back to the task at hand – inspiration: What does it even mean? Well here’s what the dictionary says:
Inspiration n. 1. Drawing in of breath. 2. Inspiring; divine influence, esp. that which is thought to prompt poets etc…….3.thought etc. that is inspired, prompting; sudden brilliant or timely idea. (Oxford Concise English Dictionary)
There is definitely something magical about being inspirational or being inspired by someone who is inspirational. There is indeed a drawing in of breath, a feeling of having breathed in new life to old thought patterns, a feeling of being in the presence of a divine being whose words or actions are transferring themselves to us by a sort of divine osmosis. Truly inspirational people are indeed brilliant, they shine with a special light that illuminates others and spurs them on to success. They are breathing out their influence and ideas into the metaphorical lungs of those who are short on ideas, motivation, and inspiration and reenergising and recharging the individual batteries of their employees, clients, families, friends or teams.
As a future possible team, group or family leader or as a woman seeking to be inspired or inspire, it’s up to you to help your team, family, or clients be better than they know, to help yourself be better than you know, and to be someone who will inspire people to be reach their full potential.
Looking back over my own very varied career, I asked myself what I had found inspirational and what it was that that had helped me be inspirational to others. Where had I found the motivation to do so many different things, constantly expanding my portfolio of skills until reinvention became second nature and part of my very DNA? What could I share with you? What would you find most useful? What follows in the next series of articles are the some of my personal ingredients for being inspirational that will help lead you and help you lead others to success.
