Keeping Motivated
"Touch people's emotions"
Through stories you connect with people and you create feelings. To my mind the single most important factor of being inspirational is being able to tap into peoples’ feelings and emotions. Once a feeling is anchored in our emotional brain it can be replayed much like a video and recalled to incite action. Smiling and looking people in the eye, having an attitude of caring, speaking directly to people will reach deep into their emotional core. Having a sense of humour is extremely important as people love to laugh, and laughter releases endorphins (the brain’s natural pain killers and well-being hormones) aiding memory so what you say will be remembered! Using your voice to sound strong, kind, compassionate, humble, enthusiastic, joyous, or serious at the right time and in the right place will reinforce your message and speak directly to your listener’s emotional brain. Your body language can speak louder than your words so you can use it to draw people to you and access their bonding emotions with welcome, open and confident gestures. Being authentic and speaking from the heart to the heart will earn you more kudos and followers and create sympathetic resonance a “phenomenon wherein a formerly passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness.” (Wikipedia). People, just like violins resonate in unison to the energy of the people around them, absorbing and taking on their same emotions. We all adapt to each other’s frequency so you need to be the lead instrument to create a vibration of successful emotions in those you seek to inspire. If you become known as a creator of positive energy and emotions you will have people flocking to follow your every move and hanging on your every word. One of the best compliments one of my clients ever paid me, was to say that coaching with me was “like taking a feel good pill”. If people feel energised and happier around you, you will achieve success with them and success for yourself. Sometimes this means being instantaneously inspirational short term, that is, having the power to lift someone’s spirits for the time it takes for them to accomplish a particular task or to avoid doing something detrimental.
My tip of the month:
Train and practice your voice, body and facial expressions in the art of evoking positive feelings in others. If you need help, a coach can train you to do this and teach you the techniques.
