THE WISDOM OF LIFE

Ayurveda is the oldest health care system in the world and has been practised in India for more than 5000 years. The term is drawn from the ancient Indian sanskrit language in which "ayus" means life and "veda" means knowledge or wisdom. It aims at the balance and unification of our senses, body, mind and soul.

In the Western culture Ayurveda is becoming more widespread and people are turning more and more to its healing and re-energising benefits.

NATURAL HEALING APPROACH

Ayurveda is prevention-orientated, free from harmful side-effects and treats the root cause of a disease rather than just the symptoms. Ayurveda views illness as caused by an imbalance in a person's bodily or mental constitution. Ayurveda is equally helpful to healthy individuals because the use of Ayurvedic techniques maintains good health all round.

THE FIVE ELEMENT THEORY (Pancha Mahabhuta Theory)

Ayurveda sees everything in the universe, including human beings, as composed of five basic elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. These five elements, in turn, combine with each other to give rise to three bio-physical forces: VATA (air and space), PITTA (fire and water) and KAPHA (water and earth). Every person has in him or her all three bio-physical forces or 'doshas', but it is the dominance of any one or two or all three that makes up a person's individual constitution. The balance between these three doshas leads to a healthy life.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS

Ayurvedic treatments involve establishing an individual's constitution and the nature of any imbalance and then seeking to return the individuals body to a state of healthy balance. They consist of the use of specialist Ayurvedic massages using specially prepared herb-infused massage oils, herbal remedies, nutritional advice, advice of lifestyle habits and specially selected yoga exercises.
