GemlucART Monaco – Art supporting health

GemlucArt Monaco 6th edition – October 17-26, 2014

Gemluc is a charity association created in 1973 and presided by Dr. Beatrice Brych and under the Honorary presidency of HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover. Through their annual competition-exhibition GemlucART, they raise funds for cancer medical research, purchase state of the art materials for hospitals and assist those suffering from the disease. Paraphrasing writer Jacques Sojcher: Creation becomes humanitarian and helps to live better.

The 6th edition of GemlucART was officially inaugurated on Tuesday evening at the Auditorium Rainier III in Monte-Carlo with a cast of more than hundred local and international talented artists. More than Euros 2,000,300 have been raised until now and the exhibition keeps growing in quality and popularity. Under the efficient organization of Laurence Garbatini from Stratege Communication and her laborious team, this exposition gathered diverse works of art that are for sale for a good cause under the theme “She and Him”. This exhibition is truly a gift of art.

The curator was no other than Yvon Kergal who is a exceptional painter and exceptional. For over 40 years he has been producting contemporary works of art. For him, a portrait must not only resemble the person but also determine his/her character and energy. He already promised to be back for the next edition in 2015 and we are happy for that. He is featured here by his own artwork entitled Osmosis as well members of the exhibition organization team gathering votes for the public prize. GemlucART thanks all the sponsors and partners for their continuous support (see photo of the Wall of Sponsors including Monaco Reporter).

And the winners are…

Highlights of the exhibition

I had a walk through the exhibition, discovering the works of art and meeting some of the artists, impressed by the quality and diversity of the pieces. Unfortunately, I cannot feature them all even if in my book they are all winners.

GemlucART returns in October 2015 – Theme: To be yourself

Yvon Kergal, curator of the exhibition, was quoted saying: “To participate it is enough to have competence and rise to the challenge of a Contemporary Art Competitiion. Certain artists come from brilliant galleries and others are independent ready to be discovered. The theme for next year will be “To be yourself”. The only selection criteria is to have talent and know how to express it.”

To all artists out there, please notice that registration forms for the next edition of GemlucART will be available already from this Monday, October 27, by going to:  www.gemlucartmonaco.com

There is a quotation that came to my mind referring to next year’s theme: To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. Ralph Waldo Emerson
