Woman Of The Month - Josephine Rutherford

Josephine Rutherford is our 'Woman of the month' for January 2014. Josephine lives in Nice and is an artist. She recently held her first solo exhibition titled 'Adventures in Colour'.

We asked Josephine the following 5 little questions and this is what she shared with us.

1. What makes you smile?

So many things make me smile, it’s nice to take a moment to think about them. Cute things spring to mind; kittens, puppies, mini beings. Babies are particularly adorable when they smile and laugh. It would be impossible not to smile back. I love to see people being playful and enjoying themselves. Acts of kindness also make me smile. It would be a sad world if people stopped caring for one-another.

2. What or who inspires you?

People who follow their passions! It sometimes takes a lot of courage to so, it can also take time and exploration to find out what they are.  I think it’s important to spend time with people who are positive role models. I’ve been lucky to meet some wonderful characters down here. Judy Churchill has really inspired me and Beverley Holt is another friend who enjoys bringing the best out in people. And the lovely Anna Fill! I love the way you ladies have a natural ability to connect with people, it’s those connections that make life so rich and interesting.

Nature is my other great inspiration. There is so much incredible beauty in the great outdoors and that’s where I get lots of ideas for paintings.

3. Do you believe in gut instincts?

I do because I know from experience that when I don’t listen to my instincts I usually realise later on why I should have.

4. Your three essential things if you were stuck on a desert island would be what?

I’ve lived on a small Island before and it was fun. I’d definitely like a hammock and my notebook. Plus a Swiss army knife for the sake of practicality.

5. If you are planning a day/night out, what do you enjoy doing the most?

I always enjoy having visitors because it motivates me to take them out and about doing touristy things, which I never get bored of.

I also like socialising and happily go along to all kinds of workshops going on in the area because I like learning new things. It’s fun to keep an open mind and share ideas about life, love and the universe.
