Anna Fill Interviews

Maureen Emerson

Ever since my first meeting with Maureen Emerson in Valbonne at the book signing of her first book 'Escape to Provence' in June 2008, I have been absolutely fascinated with the side of the Riviera that we don't often get to hear about and see.

Escape to Provence was Maureen's very own creation, a publication born out of passion for the history of Provence and the Riviera and two most extraordinary women: Lady Winifred Fortescue and Elizabeth Starr. You can see previous articles with Maureen on The Riviera Woman on the following links:

During her recent visit to Valbonne to speak about the history of the Riviera, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to catch up with Maureen and talk to her about the past, the present and the future.

Maureen chose to meet with me at the museum next to the 12 century Abbey in Valbonne. This is a landmark not well publicised and really deserves to be. I was absolutely enchanted by all the amazing artefacts surrounding us, setting the scene of medieval days gone by.

Maureen spoke to me from the heart and her knowledge and enthusiasm is truly amazing. With the research for her next book completed, she will now set to work to produce the next little gem.

Here are some of the goodies you will find at the museum in Valbonne:
