So long, sweet Summer….

We’re lucky living in this part of the world that our summers begin and end just that little bit longer than some other parts of the world. And while London and New York may have plunged head first into the new Autumn/Winter collections come the beginning of September (although perhaps not during the mini heatwave in mid-September), here in Cote D’Azur we have the luxury of opting to stay in our summer sandals just that little bit longer.

The last couple of weeks, however, have seen a few very cool mornings and evenings and a freshness in the air that was almost forgotten over summer. So most of us have most likely pulled out the winter clothes and started slowly adding on the layers as the days get cooler.

Time to embrace, if you haven’t already, the offerings available for the new Autumn/Winter 11 season, and amongst the chunky knits and autumnal hues, there’s plenty to embrace. Summer will soon be just a distant memory….

If colour is the key to your styling, then you have much to choose from. If you are still holding on to the last of your Summer clothes and just looking to gradually slip into the Autumn wardrobe, then take inspiration from Jonathon Saunders. His colour palette offers the perfect stylish transition from Summer brights to Autumn brights without feeling like you’ve jumped too far into Winter already.

If you’re looking for a little more drama to your wardrobe, Gucci offered gorgeous jewel coloured satins and blouses in eye-popping brights. Just add a flattering fedora to complete your look.

Berry shades are always a great choice for Autumn, and Mulberry mixes just the right amount of berry hues with neutrals to provide great day to evening looks.

Suits and masculine tailoring was the order of the day for many of the designers, with all kinds of cut and styles available. From modern double-breasted at Tommy Hilfiger, to tuxedo chic at Nicole Farhi and showstopping cabaret style at Dolce & Gabbana. There was a touch of vintage 1920s styling too at Tibi and Temperley London.

For a more feminine approach to the Winter wardrobe, there were some beautiful dresses available with Miu Miu offering 1940s styling with some gorgeous floral prints. Donna Karan offered more gathered, structured styles while elsewhere blouses were combined with pencil skirts for a flattering silhouette.

And finally, what’s a Winter wardrobe without a little extravagance? Feathers, see-through chiffon, leather and corsets….there’s no better way to be a Vamp when it gets closer to Christmas!
