Carol Bruton -Artist
Canadian born Carol Bruton, who now lives and works here in the South of France, developed a technique to reflect her own style to create paintings with texture and mood. She uses a palette knife to mix limestone/sand with oil medium, which gives her paintings depth and a sense of mystique. Through her work, she has a way of capturing a sense of infinity. One critic expressed her art as 'the closest thing to spiritual ecstasy'.
Blue Reflection Seaweed
Carol studied art in Madrid, London and Edinburgh and having spent a great deal of her childhood in Southern Spain, we see a strong use of bold blues and ochre hues in some of her paintings and by using the palette knife she can recreate in relief the stucco walls and mud streets. The sea pools of water in the rocks are a never-ending source of inspiration for Carol. Watching the surf wash over the rocks and then recede leaving translucent pools has led to the technique of multiple glazes. This build up of pigments has produced the very essence of the sea.
Since her first solo exhibition in Tehran in 1972, Carol has exhibited in many places including Italy, Spain, France, USA, UK and Monaco.
