2010 Media Event
When we talk of media today, we not only think of newspapers and magazines but of television, the Internet and specialist websites.
The Riviera Woman started its little journey as a humble idea of bringing together like minded people with the focus being on women. Over 2 years later and many transformations, it has become an entity in its own right. The Riviera Woman grew because there was a demand, a gap in the market and an appreciation.
Whether we are described as 'Self-Publishers' is open to debate and whether we threaten traditional media in the form of the paper press is in my opinion questionable. Compared to Google, probably the biggest source of free news today, we are very minor players.
It is all about change. Not only has technology changed over the years but the last year has seen far greater social changes where money has been the issue that has crippled the strongest of institutions. It has left a gateway for something new to appear. The little seeds that were planted over the past couple of years are given a chance to grow. It isn't just about the money, it is about the need for change. An opportunity has presented itself and The Riviera Woman has welcomed it with open arms. All we can say is 'watch this space'.
On the media panel were: (from the left) Patrick Middleton of The Riviera Reporter, Mark Dezzani of Riviera Life TV, yours truly, Anna Fill, The Riviera Woman, David Stoyle of Fr2Day and finally, Ian Brodie of Monaco Today. The moderator was Mike Hardaker, founder of AngloInfo.
The Media Event was hosted at the International School of Nice, sponsored by Events By George and organised by The International Club.
Before the final bell at the end of the evening, guests and panel shared a meal in the school canteen served by the Curry and Spice team, where the debate continued for a few hours more.
International School of Nice
Before the discussion started, the school laid on a short presentation of some of their artistic activities, starting with a couple of young pianists then some excerpts from a recent stage production. Here's a short video of the two performances.
