Boost your Brain - Foods to eat

It is widely known that people living in the Mediterranean are more likely to live longer. Much of this is down to a healthy lifestyle and eating a very healthy fresh diet.

Recent studies have also shown that a Mediterranean diet can also help to prevent dementia and improve brain wellness in general, with memory being one of the factors. It is belived that the diet slows down the ageing process of the brain by preventing it from shrinking.

We take a look at some of the foods that not only contribute to longevity but also help with weight control and without doubt, these foods taste very good indeed.

Here are some of the foods that we should be eating:

Greek Yoghurt - which not only tastes good on its own but is the perfect base for sauces and salad dressings. It contains probiotics, a healthy set of bacteria living in your gut can affect your mood and the functioning of your brain.
Nuts and seeds - which contain natural fats and a preferable alternative to other snacks. It boosts your brainpower and balance your moods.
Olive oil - one of the healthiest oils that should always have a place at the table. The benefits include lowering rates of inflammation, heart disease, depression, dementia and obesity.

Fresh herbs - basil, chives, parsley fresh from the garden are the perfect food enhancers. Herbs can help to relieve anxiety and depression.
Beans - a great substitute for carbohydrates and contain protein and fibre. Beans are filling and a great way to fuel the brain.
Fresh seafood - the Mediterranean would not be the Mediterranean without a healthy supply of fresh fish to eat. Easy to prepare and full of pure goodness. Great brain food and the fatty acid found in fish and seafood helps boosts memory.
Fresh fruit - always have fruit in the home and eat daily. Raw or freshly squeezed, fruit will improve your memory and stimulates the brain activity because of the natural sugars fruit contains.
