On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, 2012, Femmes Leaders Mondiales Monaco (FLMM) and GenderHopes take the opportunity to present their joint action project on the fight against domestic violence in Monaco.

FLMM www.femmesleadersmonaco.com is a Monegasque non-profit organization, established in Monaco in 2010, whose aim is to put into place an integrated framework between men and women so that both can better complement each other. The President and Founder of the Monaco Committee is Hilde Haneuse-Heye.

GenderHopes www.genderhopes.com was founded in Monaco in 2011 and aims to combat gender-based violence through raising public awareness and sharing information. It also conducts various projects in Monaco and abroad to assist victims of gender-based violence. Its current Director is Vibeke Thomsen.

Together with its partner GenderHopes, FLMM has established the committee “Women and Violence in Monaco”. The aim of this project is to conduct research on resources, information and support systems available for victims of domestic violence in Monaco. We aim to gather reliable statistics and establish a clear picture of the current situation through interviews and discussions with relevant actors, including police and hospital staff, social workers, governmental officials, non-profit organizations and victims. Our goal is to inform victims about the resources and support systems available to them within Monaco. In the long-term, we hope to see an increase in the proportion of victims who seek help when needed.

The committee counts among its members Fabienne Guien, Secretary General of the Economic and Social Council of Monaco, Chantal Ravera from Monaco Info as well as Celina Lafuente de Lavotha, specialized in communications, public relations and international event planning.

Our committee works jointly with the Monegasque institutions specialized in this field in order to highlight options available for victims in terms of assistance already available in the Principality and to propose concrete areas for improvement that can be put in place to assist victims rapidly.

We aim to hold a conference and present our final report for the next International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November 2013. More information on place, time and participants will be sent out closer to the date.
